After much anticipation I have
finally arrived in Granada, Nicaragua, and gotten mostly settled into
the house where we girls will be living for the next nine months. The
first night was a little stressful emotionally with everything being
so new, but I'm starting to find little routines that make the
culture transition easier.
Yesterday we met with the
missionaries that work with AIM, Charles and Sarah Kaye, and Heather
King. We also met a few of the people who will be working and
worshiping with us. Our main translators are Natalia and Mario, and I
am very excited to get to know them better! Natalia is 21 years old
and is planning a wedding soon. She says she loves to cook and sew
(like me) and her English is WAY better than my Spanish but we seem
to get by pretty well in conversation.. If you could be praying for
my relationship with her, I would appreciate it.
The best thing that came out of
last night was ENCOURAGEMENT. With all the transition I'd let the
excitement of what God is already doing in Nica get pushed to the
back of my mind. Charles Kaye shared with us that he, as well as many
of the local pastors, have been praying for a long time that God
would bring American missionaries to Granada... and here we are!
Other teams have come through AIM in the past but only for a month or
two at a time, so we are the first long-term missions team in
Granada. What a privilege, and what a responsibility. It was so
encouraging to hear that my team is a direct answer to prayer!
classroom-type training, Bible studies, and opportunities to teach
English, serve food, hold children, and worship with my brothers and
sisters in Christ. I am so excited to be here and expectant of
everything God is going to do both in me and through me!
